APU Global is pleased to announce the launch of a new Master of Public Administration (MPA) program this fall.
“The MPA is an important addition to the university’s portfolio of graduate degree options for students looking to advance their careers and pursue in-demand disciplines,” said Dr. Craig Brewer, academic dean. “As with all APU Global programs, this degree has been designed by professionals who are subject matter experts in their fields. In the case of Public Administration, that includes executive-level professionals from law enforcement, the justice system, and government agencies.”
The program’s advisory board includes multiple Chiefs of Police, a Los Angeles Deputy District Attorney, senior faculty, and university administrators. “Great effort was put into designing a program that included a practical blend of theory AND real-world applications,” said Brewer. “We want graduates to be prepared to make an immediate impact using both the knowledge and skills they gain from the program.”
The MPA program prepares individuals for leadership opportunities in public governance, law enforcement, as well as non-governmental organizations including the nonprofit sector. Such positions require a broad knowledge of subjects ranging from finance and budgeting to leadership and ethical issues in public policy, and more.

Why an MPA, and why now
Public agencies, municipalities, and nonprofits are facing a leadership transition as a generation of administrators retires. The Master of Public Administration was built to prepare the people already doing the work, analysts, coordinators, officers, and program managers, to step into those roles with formal training in budgeting, policy, and public ethics.
What the program covers
- Public budgeting and financial management
- Policy analysis and program evaluation
- Human resources and labor relations in the public sector
- Ethics and servant leadership in public service
Built for working professionals
The MPA is delivered fully online in eight-week terms, so students can keep serving in their current role while they study. Coursework is applied: assignments are designed to be completed against real agency problems.
