Sometimes the right next step isn’t a full degree. It’s a credential, certificate, or focused set of courses. APU Global offers non-degree options for working adults who need specific preparation for a role, a license, or a graduate program.
What to know
Non-degree options let you target a specific outcome, a teaching credential, prerequisite coursework for nursing admission, or focused continuing education, without committing the time and cost of a full degree. Many students also use these pathways while deciding whether to pursue a bachelor’s or master’s.
All non-degree coursework is online and asynchronous. Where supervised practice is required (for example, in credential programs), APU Global coordinates fieldwork that meets state requirements.
Non-degree pathways fit three situations: you already hold a degree and need a specific credential, you need prerequisite coursework to apply to a competitive program such as nursing, or you want focused professional development without a multi-year commitment.
Coursework completed in a non-degree pathway is regular, accredited university credit. If you later decide to pursue a full degree at APU Global, those credits apply. You are not starting over. Advisors will map the pathway against a degree plan up front so you can see how the pieces fit.
Federal financial aid eligibility differs for non-degree and certificate coursework. Some credential programs qualify; standalone courses often do not. Employer tuition assistance and military benefits frequently apply. Review options on the tuition and aid page or ask an advisor before you enroll.
