APU Global is awarded a Developing Hispanic-Serving Institutions (DHSI) Program grant

APU Global is pleased to announce that the Department of Education has awarded APU Global a Developing Hispanic-Serving Institutions (DHSI) Program grant, with a program start date of October 1, 2024. The grant provides $2.6 million of funding over the next five years to help close achievement gaps for underserved students at APU Global. This will be accomplished by expanding career counseling services for all students, revising first-year core general education courses to make them more career-relevant, and developing a peer mentoring program, a faculty and staff-student mentoring program, and faculty and staff professional development, focused on the needs of underserved students.

What the DHSI grant funds

The Developing Hispanic-Serving Institutions (DHSI) Program is a U.S. Department of Education Title V initiative that helps colleges strengthen the academic and support infrastructure serving Hispanic and low-income students. At APU Global, the award underwrites advising capacity, tutoring and coaching, bilingual outreach for prospective students and families, and career-readiness programming embedded directly into online coursework.

Why it matters for online students

Most APU Global students are working adults balancing a job, family responsibilities, and coursework. Funding that expands proactive advising and career support removes the practical barriers that most often interrupt a degree, not academic ability, but time, cost, and navigation. Grant-supported services are delivered in the same online environment students already use, so help arrives where the work happens.
