## APU Global Participates in National Day of Prayer

In observance of this year’s National Day of Prayer, the Christian Leadership Alliance is hosting a live online event featuring a series of short prayers by panelists from a variety of businesses and ministries.

Leaders from multiple nonprofit organizations will lead prayers for a wide variety of topics ranging from government and business to families and the arts and entertainment. Dr. John Reynolds, President of APU Global, will be praying for education – including students, parents, and educators.

Viewers can participate on Thursday, May 7, 2020, at 5:00 PM Pacific via the Facebook page of the Christian Leadership Alliance.

## A community gathered online

For a fully online university, community is intentional or it does not happen. National Day of Prayer gatherings bring students, faculty, and staff together across time zones, virtually, briefly, and meaningfully, around shared petitions for the university, its students, the nation, and the communities APU Global serves.

## What participation looks like

- Live virtual gatherings scheduled to accommodate working adults
- Shared prayer requests submitted by students, alumni, staff, and faculty
- Devotional resources available asynchronously for those who cannot attend live
- Chaplaincy and spiritual life support available year-round

## Faith woven into the everyday

Observances like this reflect a rhythm that runs through the academic year rather than a single event. Faith integration appears in coursework, in faculty mentoring, and in the university's “God First” commitment to serving students well.

## Why this matters at an online university

Students often assume that studying online means studying alone. Shared observances push back on that assumption. When a student in Sacramento, a service member overseas, and a nurse finishing a shift in Los Angeles all pause for the same gathering, the university becomes something more than a course platform. It becomes a community with a common center.

That sense of belonging has practical consequences. Students who feel connected to a community persist at higher rates, ask for help sooner, and finish what they start. Faith-formed community is part of the academic support structure at APU Global, not an add-on to it.
